The Reverand Father Philemon Patitsas is the Presiding Presbyter of the Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church (Naples, FL) and the Spiritual Advisor to the Christian Rights and Freedom Institute.
The Christian Rights and Freedom Institute was founded in 2014 in response to the invasion of Mosul, Iraq and the ensuing genocide. Apathy was not an option.
He was installed by Metropolitan Alexios in July of 2012 after completing graduate degrees with highest distinction at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (Master of Divinity), and the Harvard Kennedy School (Master of Public Administration). Ordained to the Holy Diaconate by Metropolitan Maximos of Pittsburgh in 2008, and to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta in 2010, he was elevated to Pneumaticos (Spiritual Father and Confessor) in February of 2014.
Since becoming the Priest of St. Katherine, Fr. Philemon has helped to energize and establish numerous worship, discipleship and service ministries, including the Christian Rights and Freedom Institute, Agape Charities, and Growth Ministries.
Through his participation in the Pastors’ Roundtable, Salt and Light Advisory Council, Action for Life and the Recovering Women’s Bible Study , and his support of Habitat for Humanity, St. Mathew’s House, and Barbara’s Friends (Lee Health Pediatric Cancer Center), Fr. Philemon has been a strong advocate for healthy relations among the people of Southwest Florida.
Fr. Philemon is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center (St. Augustine, FL), serves on the Atlanta Metropolis’ Strategic Planning Committee, and Chairs the Village Planning Committee, an exploratory effort to establish an active living community at the Atlanta Metropolis’ Diakonia Center (220 acres in Salem, SC).
He entered the Holy Priesthood after a distinguished 20-year career as an MBA degreed Petroleum Engineer and business executive with Fortune 50 Chemical and Petroleum companies (Amoco Exploration & Production, Standard Oil of Ohio, British Petroleum, Air Products and Chemicals, and Praxair Semiconductor Materials).
Fr. Philemon and Presvytera Maria are blessed with a son, two daughters, and several grandchildren.
